Botulinum toxin – a widespread substance, used to reduce wrinkles, which form due to the constant movement of facial muscles. Botulinum toxin causes muscular paralysis: it connects to muscle and nerve cell connector receptors and stops nerve impulse transmission. Muscle does not contract; therefore formation of wrinkles is temporarily suspended. Botulinum toxin injections can adjust forehead wrinkles around the eyes and lips.
What to expect?
During the procedure, small quantities of botulinum toxin with a thin needle are injected into the muscles. During the injection, patients sometimes feel a slight tingle. After the procedure, the skin at the injection site may become red, swollen, may appear small bruises. Botulinum toxin does not act immediately, so the maximum effect will be noticed in two weeks. A week after the procedure is not recommended to heat the place treated; saunas, solariums, warm compresses and massages should be avoided. The procedure can be repeated no more frequently than every three months.
